Mark has a formal education in art, earning a degree in Art and Design from Iowa State University. He also continues to evolve as an artist through experimenting with his colors and techniques. He found success in the study of art due to a learning disability during his K-12 education.
He specializes in watercolor and acrylics, working from his home studio in rural Mount Vernon. His specialties are Iowa landscapes and nocturnal views of his home community.
Mark’s paintings are known by their intense, vibrant colors and textures, a result of his 45 years of being an engaged artist.
“When I paint I like intense colors and contrast. Color drives and affects me emotionally. It calms me. Painting for me is a meditation. I seek new ways to apply paint and still maintain the imagery, but do so in such a way that it creates my style.”
