Chris Childers Painter

Abbe Creek Gallery Co-Owner

Chris, a Minneapolis native, retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2022, and then moved to Iowa to begin a new art-centered life in Mount Vernon. There, he discovered limitless subject matter and a community of artists who embraced his style, subject matter and work ethic.

Chris is drawn to painting agrarian/rural scenes en plein air, an interest and passion that had been fostered by his parents, particularly his professional photographer mother Dorothy.

He studied Studio Art at the University of Minnesota and Landscape Painting and Portraiture at The Atelier in Minneapolis. He also has studied with painters Cecile Hartleib, Wayne Howell, James Conaway, and Scott Lloyd Anderson, connections and mentorships to be the foundation of his ongoing work.

Chris paints primarily in oils. His work graces walls in homes of collectors and admirers across the United States. He has participated in numerous exhibits, including four solo shows and was featured in juried shows including the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts exhibit.

“The landscapes I paint are of the kind I see every day. They are detailed and realistic. I try to convey a familiarity of place, enhanced by a quality of light, which comes only during the day’s transitions, the glow that foretells dusk and dawn.

I think my paintings remind us of a slower time that captures and preserves fleeting memories, scenes in which you want to stroll over the hillside to enjoy the view from the other side.”
